Dr. Michael Bittner devotes his energy to learning and teaching. A native westerner, Dr. Bittner brings a complementary blend of western practicality, free spirit and authenticity to teaching, coaching, healing, design and organizational development in his role as co-founder and managing partner of ZenSpot, Inc., a holistic lifestyle and education organization, whose mission is to empower people to discover their true self. Michael views a healthy lifestyle as a combination of thoughtful exercise, appropriate diet, nourishing environment and balance between work, home and personal time. As such, Michael emphasizes the importance of feeding the mind, caring for the body and simultaneously organizing the external environment. Through these efforts steadiness and richness are achieved, enabling the mind, body, spirit to operate at enhanced levels.
Bittner's yoga practice and teaching are influenced by his education and training in the lineages of Wang Zhe (Chongyang) Longmen Quanzhen (Complete Perfection) School of the Taoist religion, Swami Kripalvanada, Lahira Mahasaya and Tirumalai Krishnamacharya where he has studied in-depth Medical Qigong, Acupressure, Taoism, Pranayama, Meditation, Asana and Ayurveda. Bittner earned his 400-hour Qigong certification from the Qigong and Daoist Training Center, his 500-hour yoga certification from Kripalu and his 200-hour yoga certification from the Barkan Method of Hot Yoga. Bittner studied with Yoga Fit and Phoenix Rising. Currently, Bittner is a Taoist Priest Adept in the American Dragon Gate Lineage under Shifu Michael Rinaldini (Li Chang Dao), a High Level Qigong Teacher, and 22nd generation Longmen Taoist Priest, and a student of acupressure with Dr. Michael Reed Gach, Ph.D.
Bittner received a Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Education in the Social Sciences from the University of Washington with supporting areas of study in Urban Design and Planning and Global Trade, Transportation and Logistics. Bittner holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Boise State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received a Secondary Teaching Credential from the State of Idaho. Bittner possesses graduate credentials in Feng Shui Interior Design and Interior Design from the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York City. Michael is a certified Life Coach through the International Coaching Federation; an E-RYT with the Yoga Alliance; a Specialist in Yoga for Children; a Holistic Stress Management Coach through The Spencer Institute and a Lifestyle and Weight Management Specialist through NESTA (National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association) and a long standing Water Safety Instructor with the American Red Cross.
Prior to ZenSpot, Bittner held academic and executive posts in research, teaching and administration in Washington, California and New York.
Bittner has traveled to more than 45 countries on four continents.
